This explains what AnchorBase collects, why, and what we don't do with it.
Your email address, display name, boats and crews you set up, anchor-watch sessions (GPS positions recorded while armed), device info (model, OS) and a push-notification token used to alert your crew, and wind / weather / tide data associated with your anchor sessions (sourced from third-party services, not from you).
To run the anchor alarm (location is used locally on your device while armed), sync your data across your devices, notify your crew when the alarm triggers, and diagnose crashes. We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it to profile you for marketing.
Firebase (operated by Google Cloud). Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Your account is isolated from other users' data via Firebase security rules.
AnchorBase uses your location whenever the app is open (to show your position on the map) and continuously while a watch is armed, including in the background with the screen off — that's why we request "Always" access on native platforms. We only record and store position history during an armed watch session; you can delete individual sessions from the history screen.
If you sign in with Apple and choose to hide your email, Apple gives AnchorBase a private relay address (ends in @privaterelay.appleid.com) in place of your real one. We use this relay address solely to send account-related email — password resets, alarm alerts you've opted into, legal notices. We do not attempt to unmask, sell, or share it. If you later revoke Sign in with Apple from your Apple ID settings, your account here is deactivated because we can no longer reach you.
You can use AnchorBase without an account. Guest mode signs you in anonymously — a random account ID with no email, held only on this device — so the alarm can run. Creating a full account later upgrades that same ID and keeps your boat and watch history. Guest data is not backed up across devices and is lost if you delete the app before creating an account.
You can export all your data (Settings → Your profile → Export data) or delete your account at any time (Settings → Your profile → Delete account). Deletion is permanent and irreversible.
Firebase (auth, storage, notifications), MET Norway (wind / tide forecast), Geoapify (reverse-geocoding your anchorage coordinates into place names), OpenStreetMap / OpenSeaMap (map tiles), and Apple / Google (crash reports, app store billing if applicable). Each has their own policy governing the data they process on our behalf.
